Maria Barrufet, Professor, assistant Chief of Department of Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering and Baker Hughes with President, has received $50,000 for a contract of one year for the proposed research retirements 11-0456: value chain analysis of Heavy Oil wellhead at the refinery.
Dr. Maria BarrufetCrude oils heavy or extra strong cannot be transported by pipeline without prior reduction of viscosity. This is commonly achieved by blending with light hydrocarbon oil. Currently most operators dilute bitumen and heavy oil to the location of these solvents which are routed in recovery or an adjacent; classical oilfield facility This diluted product is then transported (boat, train, truck and pipeline) on the market (a processing plant or a refinery).
Barrufet-led research project will examine the entire value chain (analysis of the value and market analysis) heavy oil from where it is produced in the wells to when it is delivered to the refinery. This research retirements project objectives are to understand and to estimate the value of upgrading of heavy oil in the versus practice carry diluent to the location of the centralized facilities construction is a great distance from the field.
