DURHAM, N.C.--Le Tuesday evening, 645 high school seniors received notice of acceptance at Duke University as the first members of the class of 2015.

This year, more than 2,200 students applied in the framework decision to program the Duke, an increase of 11 per cent the number last year and 220 more than the previous record set in 2009. Those who apply by this process know they want to attend Duke and undertake to register at the University if they receive an offer of admission in December.

Last year, the University agreed 600 students from rapid decision. Accepts this year represent an increase of 9% in the number of admitted students. Students admitted that at the beginning of the decision this year will be represent 38% of entering the next fall, which should include students 1.705 class.

Dean of undergraduate Admissions Christoph Guttentag says that the growing interest in small decision makes a competitive process a little more than previous years. The percentage of early decision of candidates who have been accepted rose 30 percent in 2009 to 29% in 2010.

"My staff and I were particularly pleased and impressed by this year applicants for rapid decision and we've had the chance to create the basis of the class of 2015 with such a seductive group of students," Guttentag says.

Guttentag says that the increase in requests for advance ruling is due in part to the commitment of the Duke focused on the need for financial assistance.

"Once more this year we have seen an increase in families seeking financial assistance among the students to apply early in the decision." "They understand our commitment to make the affordable Duke is a priority for the University," says Guttentag.

Guttentag added that while the overwhelming majority of the places in the class of 2015 will continue to be completed by regular decision applicants, this year is probably at least as selective as last year.

"Last year we received close to 25,000 requests for regular decision." This year, regular decision applicants will be be vying for just 1.055 spaces in the class. »

New York is represented among students admitted fast decision, North Carolina, California, Florida and Texas, rounded on the top five. Color also students are well represented among students admitted in the decision, including more than 30%, the highest number in the history of the Duke.

Yet again this year, most students received their decisions when visiting a website online. More than 200 students received their decisions in the first minute, and more than 600 received their decision in the first 10 minutes. Within 12 hours, half admitted students responded in line with their intent to register and 92% of applicants in the decision had received their decisions online.
Among those who applied, 695 have postponed spring regular decision process.

The date limit for regular admission is January 2, and final decisions will be available to students on April 1.
