"Why I would surely like to have that colleagues who hits a home run each time at bat, hits on each opposing pulp when tongue, which throws strikes at any base or plate when it plays outfield and is always thinking about two sleeves to come just what he get another team of baffles." Any manager would like a guy as it plays for him. The only problem is to get him to stop his beer Cup and alight at stands and doing things. »
? Pittsburgh Pirates former manager Danny Murtaugh (of "home plate moves: jokes & action Best of baseball")
Danny Murtaugh hasn't football coach, but I thought his insight during the great upheaval recently wracked the Gator Nation: the resignation as football to the University of Florida coach urban Meyer.
Because it gets to the heart of what is really bad football College now.
No, this is not that coaches are paid too much, that players receive money under the table, or universities operate their athletes. It is not that Newton Cam father tried to sell his son or recruitment is rotten by corruption. It is not the cost of tickets too, the REF M2 or there are too many hits sales. It is not that Gator coaches refuse to call me for advice on the appeal of the exhibit.
What is bad is us.
We exceeded crazy. We are sick with the desire to see our teams to win. Otherwise, we are convinced of something is terribly wrong and that if it had been set only ? and of course, we know exactly how the problem ? our lives better.
Fans were probably always this ill. But they were limited in the spread of infection in these few fans in range of ? ? or fist voice around TV, stands or on the adjoining bar stools.
But we now have the Internet, viral disease which is fandom sports track. And it showed just sickos how many there are.
Fueling this rant is having stayed at the fan forums this season as the Gators struggled through a ugly season 7-5. Obviously satisfactory step and Meyer certainly deserve some criticism. I mean, what the fans for?
(2 of 2)But which stunned me should read the incredible vitriol sunk on his head by fans who seemed something small shelters: If you evaluate the Holy Grail of college football ? Meyer wins national championships ? over the past five years, he was the coach more successful in college football. The best, with no peer. Meyer has just top Florida in 2006 and in 2008 and 2009 missed playing a third when only Florida loss to Alabama ? eventual national champion.
Yet at the end of the 2010 season many fans had concluded that Meyer has become a moron football. And they hated him for it. They hated him with a passion because he could not see, that they could also easily solve the problem.
Now, I'm not that Meyer should have resigned. I think he was physically and mentally worn out and made the right decision. He won championships working so hard that he put the rest of his life on hold. He could not keep doing.
Yet, over five years, he has been the best and probably could be once more.
I've written before about how today, Bear Bryant could lose his job before he could become "the bear". Bryant has won six national championships more than 25 years in Alabama, but suffered consecutive 6 - 5, 6-5 - 1 record in 1969-1970. Worse yet, he had a record of lost in the Southeastern Conference two years.
Today, he is fired or ousted from rabid fans. Instead of it he kept working, box 12 ? more years and won three more national titles. And, until his retirement in 1982, he was the winningest coach in college football history.
Hey Bryant ? 6-5? You ask! Who tells you that you could coach?
