Mechanical engineering celebrates career high faculty Bowen and Turner (Tamu)

Texas A & M Engineering and the Department of mechanical engineering, celebrated the careers of two senior faculty members with a receipt of retirement on Wednesday (15 December) in Jack e. Brown building on the campus of the University Texas A & M.

Receiving acknowledged Mr. Ray Bowen, Professor and Chairman Emeritus of the University Texas A & M and the Dr. w. Dan Turner, Professor and former Director of the Texas Engineering Experiment Station energy laboratory.

"I looked there place and between the two of them, they almost 90 years of experience in higher education," said the head of Department of mechanical engineering Dr. Dennis O'Neal.

Bowen, who received her degree from Texas A & M in 1958 with a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, became President of Texas A & M in 1994 and perhaps best known for leading the University by the turmoil that followed the collapse of the Aggie 1999 fire. He joined the Faculty of mechanical engineering in 2002.

Mr. Kumbakonam "K.R." Rajagopal, Professor Emeritus of mechanical engineering, Regents Professor and Chair of Forsyth in mechanical engineering and a renowned pioneer in continuum mechanics praises achievements of Bowen as a researcher.

"When I offered work [in Texas A & M], I have it because he was a University who was a scholar as President,", has said.

Turner joined the Faculty of mechanical engineering in 1981 and has been principal founder of retirements Energy Systems Laboratory, which specializes in the efficient use of energy in non-residential buildings. ESL was founded in 1984 as the group management of energy.

Turner has helped write guidelines for the size of State LoanSTAR (loans to save taxes and resources), 98.6 million revolving fund loans for energy efficiency energy renovations in public buildings. LoanSTAR has registered Texans over $ 160 million.

Professor Dr. Warren Heffington said Turner is an excellent teacher widely recognized for its expertise in the classroom.

"He deserves all the awards that he has received," said Heffington.

McVay selected for the program faculty ConocoPhillips (Tamu)

Mr. Duane McVay, Professor Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering and Michael and Heidi Gatens Professor of development resources Unconventional, chose to attend the Faculty ConocoPhillips sponsorship programme.

ConocoPhillips annually grants members of the Faculty strongly involved in the education of students and active in the areas of interest to ConocoPhillips. A price of $25,000 awarded to those who participate in the program is used at the discretion of the student to continue these efforts.

In addition to the monetary prize, McVay was invited to visit the ConocoPhillips offices to meet with representatives of the company and other recipients of this award.

McVay is the only Professor involved in upstream engineering and the only teacher in Texas A & M to receive the award this year.
